Packing tips:
- India is a dessert climate. Keep this in mind
- Hydration is key and water alone is not enough. Salts and minerals are essential. Emergen-C packets are good.
- Plan to sweat. Less is not always more, unless you plan to get clothing in India, pack enough clothes for changing during the day.
- Bring only fun dark colored socks. I was told to bring only black or colored socks by a friend when packing for my first trip to India. Here is why: it is dusty. The dust will follow you around and your white socks will never look white and clean again. Go wild with prints and you will have happy feet.
- BRING YOUR OWN MEDICATION. Generics are available for most prescriptions but prices have gone up.
- Consider purchasing a cell phone in India. Personally I have found it easier to acquire and use an Indian phone. Phones are relatively inexpensive and require a passport photo for documentation during purchase.
- When it comes to electronics keep in mind
- Dust dirt and more dirt dust
- India voltage is 220, check your electronics (flat irons included) so they don’t fry.
- Electronics run hotter on 220 voltage. Combine with Delhi heat things can over heat.
- Plug adapters, like those pictured below work well. Choose India specific adapters. The “universal” adapters are cumbersome.
